Note | According to Frank Rogers (11 Apr 2012) When Clarence Campbell died of a gun shot wound, the Campbell family moved from Kentucky to Loda, Illinois, where the helpful Rogers family could be of assistance. John moved in with the Rogers family for the time it took the Campbell family to get settled in Loda. Reportedly, John was a little strange and howled at night on occasion. He also had a propensity to get into fights and was known as a tough fighter. During World War II he was a fireman on the railroad. He also worked for the Peterson Blacksmith Shop and was known as a good welder, according to George Carter. John was a good friend of Gordon Peterson, the son of the shop owner. John was devastated by the death of his friend Gordon. John ended up living at a mental care facility in Kankakee, a short distance from Loda, and died by being thrown off a balcony of the facility during a fight. James M Fulford |
