Note | From: Bill Gottsch <billgottsch@cox.net> To: Jfulford@pconline.com Subject: Re: Your Gotsch family Date: Fri, 19 Jan 2007 14:52:33 -0600 Good morning your time Jim, After looking at your Gottsch family I noticed something. The names Jochim Gotsch and Sielke Steffen are also in my Gottsch data base. I wrote my friend and asked him to see if they were the same people. As it turns out they are. I then asked him if he could find their children to see if there was a common ancestor. Right now we are only related by marriage only, but by two ways. Jochim and Sielke had 8 children total, of which 6 grew to adulthood. Children : (all born in Krumbek)

Now for the tale of two families. Family #1.) In 1828 Gretje Götsch, one of my family members, had a night of romance with one Hans Mundt. As a result in January of 1829, Jochim Gotsch was born in Barsbek. In September of 1834 Gretje married your Peter b. 1791 brother Clas Gotsch b. 6-9-1800. Clas died in December of 1841 so they were only married for 6 1/2 years and had no other children. Family #2.) Claus Schlapkohl the brother of your g-g-grandmother, Antje (Anna) Schlapkohl married Mary Soll and removed from Scott County Iowa to Washington County, Nebraska, where they farmed. They had one know child Julius. The Fritz Misfeldt family had also removed from Scott County to Nebraska and they were neighbors. Soon after arriving here, Fritz's wife died leaving him with a number of children to raise. One of those children was Henry Misfeldt, who married two of my great great aunts. His first wife died at 24 in childbirth, and he married her sister. Now Henry's sister Anna went to work as a house keeper of Claus and Mary Soll Schlapkohl in the mid 1890's. Family stories tell that Anna became pregnant. No one knows who the father was for sure, but in 1899 Julius Schlapkohl married Anna Misfeldt, and little William Schlapkohl was born in late 1899. I may be able to connect other family as I go through the data bases. Also, the researcher told me that your Gottsch family were farmers and their history is documented and he can take the family back to 1590. The cost of doing so would depend on how far out you would like to take the family lines. If you only wanted a direct line back the cost would be very reasonable. Most of the time involved would be finding the church book entries, translation, and grouping the family lines. He has sent me some more images of Jochim and Sielke's family and I will send them to you for the donation you have already given. |
