He was born Aug. 24, 1901, in Westminster, Vt., the son of George E Wright Sr. and Lenna (Cater) Wright. He came to Exeter from Claremont in 1935. He retired in 1966 as president and director of Rockingham National Bank, Exeter, now Indian Head National Bank of Exeter. He was also director of New Hampshire Bankshares Inc., Nashua, now Indian Head Banks. He was treasurer-trustee and member of the finance committee of American Baptist Churches of New Hampshire, formerly United Baptist Churches of New Hampshire, Concord, for 35 years, retiring in 1975. He was trustee and chairman of First Baptist Church of Exeter for 20 years and former treasurer and trustee of Eventide Home, Exeter, and treasurer of Rockingham County Extension Service. Mr. Wright was a member of the Exeter Lions Club for more than 60 years. He was a Mason for 65 years and a member of the Hiram Lodge No.9, Webb Chapter, Columbian Council and Sullivan Commandry, all of Claremont. The widower of Alice (Muchmore) Wright, who died in 1989, he is survived by one son, Richard L. Wright of Manchester, Conn.; one daughter, Janice W. Freelove of Lauderdale-by-the-sea, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren. He was predeceased by one son, Allen B. Wright. Graveside services will be held in Exeter Cemetery at a later date at the convenience of the family. |
